Day city tour- During Panoramic Kiev City Tour. First will take you to St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral – a real place of pilgrimage of the aesthetes. Then we drive to the Golden Gate – one of the most famous architectural sites in Kyiv, the former main entrance into Kyiv. National Opera of Ukraine, one of the most beautiful Neo-Renaissance constructions in Kyiv, is our next stop. We’ll continue the program with visiting St. Sophia’s Square. According to the “Chronicle of the Times passed”, right here, in the ‘field outside the city”, in 1039 Prince Yaroslav the Wise defeated the nomads Pechenegs, who troubled Kyiv with their raids for more than 100 years. The construction of St. Sophia’s Cathedral (we’ll visit it outside during city tour) had been an act of affirmation of the might of Kyiv Rus as a state. We’ll continue our tour on St. Michael’s square and visit St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral, which marked its 900th anniversary in 2008.Next stop is Vladimir’s Hill, the place, where according to the chronicles, the first settlement was established by 3 brothers: Kiy, Shcheck, Horiv and their sister Lybid in 482 A.D. From Vladimir’s hill we’ll walk on Andrew’s descent – without a doubt one of the Kyiv’s oldest an most beloved streets. Now the Descent is called “The Montmartre of Kiev”: it’s filled with the art shops and exhibits, cafes. Among old annalistic hills, from St. Andrew’s Church, the masterpiece of Baroque genius Bartholomew Rastrelli, along “Richard the Lion Hearted Castle”, the house of Bulgakov’s you’ll descent to Podil, the old trade district, the centre of Medieval town. We’ll go on our excursion at the Arch of Friendship of the Nations, the monument which was constructed in 1982 to celebrate an anniversary of the union of Russia and Ukraine. There is a nice view over the Dnieper River and its opposite bank. At the end of the city tour there will be a chance to visit the main city street Khreshchatyk and famous Maidan Nezalezhnosti (The Independence Square), where millions of people used to gather in the most crucial times in the life of the country.
